Four eye schools soccer glory in Masvingo

THE stage is set for an electrifying finale at Mucheke Stadium as Somvubu, Chibi, Nyamidzi and Rusununguko prepare to clash in the girls’ and boys’ finals of the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) Under-20 on Friday.

The tournament, which has captivated audiences nationally where competition started at cluster level, will see these talented young athletes battle it out for the coveted trophies.

In the girls’ category, Somvubu, known for their tenacious defence, will face off against Nyamidzi, who have been riding high on the back of Linda Nyamombe’s impressive form. Somvubu’s journey to the final was marked by a nail-biting penalty shootout against St Joseph’s, where they edged out their opponents 2-0 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile, in the boys’ final, Rusununguko will take on Chibi in a clash of titans.
Rusununguko’s convincing 3-1 win over defending champions Allan Wilson in the semis has set the tone for their title aspirations.

Chibi, on the other hand, will be looking to cause an upset after edging out Masvingo Christian College 2-0 in their semifinal.

The finals, scheduled for Friday at Mucheke Stadium, promise to be an exciting spectacle, with both teams showcasing their skills and determination. The tournament has not only highlighted the talent in Masvingo but also demonstrated the sportsmanship and camaraderie that defines school sports in the country.
