Four Zimbabwean Junior swimmers will represent the country at the Cana African Junior Swimming Championship which will be hosted by Tunisia in September.
Donata Katai, Tanatsirwa Chitsurura, Cory Werrett and Paul Mwipikeni will be training through winter in an effort to garner a few medals against Africa’s best.
Katai made headlines when she broke Kirsty Coventry 1998 100m backstroke record earlier this year in South Africa and she will be making her first ever appearance at the Africa Junior Championship.
The 15-year-old swimmer clinched a gold medal as she came in first in the 14-years-olds 100m backstroke in a record time of 1 minute 05,60 seconds to beat Coventry’s 1 minute 05,94 seconds and she also won gold in the 50m backstroke in a time of 31,34 seconds. Another swimmer, Tanatsirwa Chitsurura who doubles as a waterpolo player and swimmer will also be taking part in the prestigious junior swimming championship.
