THE goals have been flowing thick and fast in the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign.
The campaign has seen 476 goals being scored after 28 weeks of action.
The 500-goal mark is now firmly within sight.
With the season entering its most decisive phase, the numbers paint a picture of an increasingly entertaining campaign, which has been characterised by attacking football, individual brilliance and plenty of goals across the league.
At the forefront of the scoring charts is Hardrock forward Washington Navaya, who has established himself as the leading marksman with 15 goals.
Navaya has been one of the most consistent finishers this season and remains the man everyone else is chasing as the race for the Golden Boot gathers momentum.
Herentals’ Ralph Kawondera is his closest challenger on 12 goals, while Dynamos’ Frank Agyemang and Scotland veteran Khama Billiat have both found the net 11 times.
Scotland have enjoyed a particularly productive campaign in front of goal.
Knowledge Musona is on 10 goals and his brother Walter Musona is on nine goals.
Their contribution has helped keep Scotland among the teams with a significant presence on the scoring charts.
The depth of the scoring statistics, however, tells an even more interesting story.
A large number of players have already registered multiple goals this season, with the Week 28 statistics showing players spread across virtually every club contributing to the goal tally.
From the established names to players making their mark on the league, there has been no shortage of attacking talent.
Hardrock’s scoring strength is evident beyond Navaya, with Wilfred Madzunga on seven goals, while Sambulo Semelane, Tinashe Mashaireni and Prince Dube have also contributed significantly.
Bulawayo Chiefs, CAPS United, Chicken Inn, Dynamos, Highlanders, MWOS, Ngezi Platinum Stars, FC Platinum, Herentals, Manica Diamonds, Simba Bhora, TelOne, Triangle and ZPC Kariba have all seen players feature among the league’s goal scorers, highlighting the widespread nature of the attacking threat.
The statistics also reveal that scoring has not been restricted to the traditional forwards.
Midfielders and players operating in different attacking roles have chipped in with important goals, making the race for the top scoring honours an increasingly fascinating one.
And now, with 476 goals on board, the league is only 24 goals away from reaching 500.
That landmark could arrive sooner rather than later if the current scoring rate continues.
The race for the Golden Boot is equally intriguing.
