Four people were killed while 19 others were injured in separate road traffic accidents that were recorded this Wednesday in Bulawayo and Beitbridge.
According to police the two road traffic accidents occurred along the Harare-Bulawayo Road and Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road on September 30, 2026.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the first fatal road accident occurred at approximately 2:30 am at the 437-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road.
” A motorist driving a Honda Fit carrying four passengers along Cecil Road was involved in a collision after failing to give way to a Zhongtong bus travelling along the Harare-Bulawayo Road towards Bulawayo with seven passengers on board,” he said.
“As a result of the collision, four people who were travelling in the Honda Fit died on the spot, while three people, comprising one Honda Fit passenger and two Zhongtong bus passengers, sustained injuries.
“The bodies of the victims were conveyed to United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were referred to the same institution for medical treatment.”
In a separate incident, another road traffic accident occurred at around 6:30 am, at the 24-kilometre peg along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road when the driver of a Yutong bus lost control and it veered off the road to the right, struck a culvert and overturned before landing on its roof.
As a result of the accident, 19 passengers sustained injuries and were referred to Mpilo Hospital for medical treatment.
Comm Nyathi has urged motorists to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations and to exercise caution on the roads in order to safeguard lives.
