FOUR men from Lupane allegedly stole a neighbour’s two donkeys and drove them to Tsholotsho where they intended to exchange them for a cow, a court heard.
Lupane resident magistrate Ndumo Masuku heard this when Vusa Tshuma, 40, Mthandeni Sibanda, 35, Qhubekani Ncube, 31, and Dumisani Sibanda, who are being charged with stock theft, appeared before him.
The four,all from Ndenge area in Lupane, pleaded not guilty to the charges through their lawyer Sikhumbuzo Nyathi of Masomi and Partners.
Tshuma, Sibanda, Ncube and Dumisani were remanded to February 17 for trial on $100 bail each.
They were ordered to report to Lupane Police Station once a week, to reside at their given addresses and not to interfere with state witnesses as part of their bail conditions.
The court was told that the donkeys belonged to Partson Moyo.
Prosecuting, Sanders Sibanda told the court that on January 28, the four proceeded to Moyo’s homestead after conniving to steal his donkeys.
“Tshuma, Sibanda, Ncube and Dumisani along with two others who are still on the run, took two donkeys from Moyo’s kraal and went to Sipepa area where they intended to exchange the donkeys for a cow,” the prosecutor said.
On January 29, Moyo noticed that his donkeys were missing.
He reported the matter to the police after no one in the village claimed to have seen them.
Police recovered the donkeys in Sipepa, Tsholotsho where the accused were arrested.
The donkeys were valued at $300 and they were all recovered.
