FOUR NABBED FOR EXTORTING US$500 FROM WOMAN AT COURT

FOUR people, who masqueraded as judiciary officers, were arrested on Thursday for extorting a relative of an accused person in Mutare.

Nigel Godwin Mukuruzado, 34, Reginald Ndarera, 20, Shaloom Nyamazana, 26, and Tinashe Chiwaye, 28, were arrested for extorting US$500 from a woman, whose husband was facing murder charges.

In a statement, national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said one of the suspects, who had met the complainant’s husband while they were both remanded in custody at Mutare Prison, promised the complainant that he would facilitate the change of her husband’s murder charges to culpable homicide.

“Police arrested four suspects in connection with a case of extortion in Mutare.

“The suspects were arrested while receiving US$500 which they had demanded promising to facilitate the reduction of murder charges,” said Comm Nyathi.
