Four players to represent Byo at Zim Open

Gavin Magenga, Thesly Mufunda, Nkanyiso Sibanda and Stephen Chiwanza will battle it out in the last four of the Bulawayo competition set for Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC).
After that, they will shift focus and start their preparations for the country’s tournament.

Mufunda, who is GC Tennis Centre Singles League co-ordinator, yesterday told Chronicle Sports that the rains forced them to postpone the semi-finals of the competition.
He confirmed that those in the last four had indicated that they would be representing Bulawayo at the Zimbabwe open.
“We have had a great Singles League and most of the  guys who participated have been asking for more action.   I can say we have achieved one of our top objectives,  to have more players going to represent Bulawayo at the Zimbabwe Open.

“By the look of things, we are likely to have  more than six players going to Harare next month  and that is good for our game. We are also on  the track towards the resuscitation of club tennis because most of the people who participated want to play more tennis.

“As for the semi-finals and final being moved to this weekend, it was beyond our control as we received   lots of rains forcing us to call off the games,” said   Mufunda.
The Singles League competition has been running for four weeks and the above players will face each other  in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The GC Tennis Centre Singles League attracted 23  players.
On their way to the last four, Sibanda beat Raggs Joelson 6-2, 6-1 with Mufunda thumping Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Tennis Board’s chairman Adam Joelson 6-1, 6-3.

In the other games Magenga beat Rennie Chikunichawa   6-3, 7-6 while Chiwanza won 6-3, 6-2 against Keletso Malane.
Magenga will battle it out against Mufunda for a  final place while Sibanda and Chiwanza will square  off in another semi-final match.
