THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) has announced that it will send four players to attend a 10-month training stint in Zambia and Kenya under the Youth Sport Exchange Programme (YSEP).
This is the second round of the internationally acclaimed skills impartation initiative where players and volunteers under the age of 25 from any volleyball stakeholders locally, get exposure by touring countries such as Zambia, Kenya and Norway.
The prime aim of the YSEP programme is to enhance young sport athletes’ personal development through cultural exchange.
Players that are set to leave the country for the programme are Bulawayo-based Proud Nyoni and Quincy Mudenda who both play for Highlanders Volleyball Club.
These two have been posted to Zambia.
Harare-based player, Progress Gasa and Sibusisiwe Dlala of Midlands will be heading to Kenya.
Not only players are eligible for the programme, it is open to any young person involved in different aspects of the game, according to ZVA president Mxolisi Ndlovu, who also confirmed the latest development.
“With the Youth Sport Exchange Programme, we send participants to various countries, in particular Zambia, Norway and Kenya. The participants take part in various volleyball activities for 10 months.
“This time around we are sending four players whom we would want to acquire as much knowledge in coaching so that when they finish their attachments they come back home to coach our development sides.
“But, let me emphasise that one does not necessarily have to be a volleyball player to get into the programme but is open to anyone involved in any aspect of the game” said Ndlovu.
He said they expect the quartet to account themselves well and utilise the opportunity for their personal growth while benefitting the game of volleyball back in Zimbabwe.
“Definitely they will come back a grown up lot both in their personal lives and this is good for the sport.”
