A FOUR-YEAR-OLD ECD learner was found dead with multiple bruises in Chiredzi.

Steadfast Makondo’s body was discovered on 27 January in Newtown, Chiredzi.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the child had earlier been reported missing while coming from school.
“Police in Chiredzi are investigating the circumstances surrounding a case of murder in which an ECD A learner, Steadfast Makondo (four), was found dead with multiple bruises,” said Nyathi.

The child’s body was found under a Marula tree.

The multiple bruises found on the body point to foul play, and police are now working to establish who last saw the child alive and what exactly happened during the short journey from school.

Comm Nyathi urged parents to closely monitor their children.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges parents and guardians to take full responsibility for the safety of their children, particularly primary and ECD learners,” said Comm Nyathi.
“Children should not be left to travel alone, especially in isolated areas.”

No arrests have been made so far, and investigations are continuing.
