Bulawayo residents will receive a wide range of medical check-ups from October 17 to 19 during a medical outreach programme hosted by Discovery Ambulance Services at the Jairos Jiri Vocational Training Centre as part of the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme.

The medical outreach programme will see members of the public receiving free blood pressure checks, free blood glucose and sugar tests, free first aid medical training from 9 am to 3 pm, free health education on health emergencies and with patients in critical conditions conveyed from the doorsteps of their homes to the nearest hospital.

President Mnangagwa has launched a deliberate strategy to address health sector challenges, ensure there are resources for health and ensure the highest quality of life for all Zimbabweans by 2030.

There is a commitment to accelerate investments in health workforce development and to enhance collaboration across sectors.

The chief executive and founder of Discovery Ambulance Services Dave Munowenyu said everyone was welcome to receive free medical check-ups and training.

“On Saturday, we are in Bulawayo, and everyone is free to come and get checked for free.

“We are offering free blood pressure, blood glucose, and sugar tests and also free first aid training.”

“We are expecting people to come in their numbers as we are going to be offering training from the 17th to the 19th of this month and anyone who is going to be trained in first aid and completes the course is going to be rewarded with a certificate of completion,” he said.

The Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme ensures that all citizens have access to timely and appropriate medical care during emergencies, which will see the residents receiving treatment for various ailments.

“This is an opportunity that the President has offered to us to impart knowledge to the citizenry so that they are capable of taking care of medical emergencies whether it is an accident or extreme illness, ensuring exceptional health care services countrywide,” said Mr Munowenyu.

The Presidential outreach programme is meant to spread to all provinces to bring free medical services to the doorsteps of the community.

The outreach has encompassed two provinces so far, starting in Manicaland and Harare Metropolitan and now Bulawayo being the third province to be catered for by the Presidential Emergency Medical Scheme.

The country has made significant strides in improving the provision of healthcare services to all citizens over the past years as mandated in the National Health Strategy.
