French Embassy responds to Herald article

The French Embassy in Zimbabwe wishes to respond to the publication, in the 16 August edition of the Herald, of an article containing groundless allegations about the action of the French army in the Sahel.

The French Embassy is keen to highlight the fact that the French soldiers positioned in the Sahel are there at the request of the legitimate authorities to combat the terrorist groups destabilising the region and torturing people in the Sahel.

It is also keen to reiterate that the French forces have been fighting this scourge for many years in the Sahel, with their soldiers risking their lives.

In Niger, the agreements signed with the legitimate authorities have allowed that country to record significant results in the fight against the armed terrorist groups.
