FRESH concerns over road safety along the Harare-Bulawayo Road near Kadoma have emerged following a fatal accident that claimed three lives and left five others seriously injured on Saturday, barely two weeks after two Chinhoyi school headmasters died in a head-on collision near the same area.
The latest crash adds to growing concerns over road fatalities along the highway between Chegutu and Kadoma, with the deaths of Chaedza Primary School headmaster Mr Everisto Madzudzo and former Mhanyame Primary School headmaster Mr Rupere still fresh in the minds of the Chinhoyi community.
In the latest accident, a driver and two passengers who were travelling in a Nissan AD van died on the spot after the vehicle collided with a truck, a Scania, travelling in the opposite direction.
The Nissan AD van was carrying seven passengers and was heading towards Harare when the accident occurred.
Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident, saying it occurred at the 128-kilometre peg along the Harare-Bulawayo Road at around 3 pm on October 17, 2026.
“The accident occurred when a Nissan AD van carrying seven passengers and travelling towards Harare sideswiped a Scania truck which was travelling in the opposite direction,” he said.
Five other passengers in the Nissan AD van sustained serious injuries and were taken to Kadoma General Hospital for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were also taken to the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
