The Zimbabwe Republic Police has purchased new DM4 tactical rifles for use in operations and to curb criminal activity.
The DM-4 is a South African-assembled AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle produced by Diplopoint, a manufacturer and wholesaler of firearms and ammunition.
It features forged 7075-T6 or 6068-T6 aluminium receivers, a direct gas-impingement system and barrels.
Police officers are now being trained to use these new guns.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Nyathi said, “The ZRP continues to capacitate officers with the requisite skills and knowledge to execute their duties professionally, safely and effectively.
“The Officer Commanding Police Bulawayo Province, Commissioner Jasper Chizemo led 22 senior officers in a rifle familiarisation exercise at Matopos Battle Camp, focusing on the newly acquired DM4 rifles recently introduced into service.”
He said the exercise aimed to enhance officers’ understanding of the new equipment, with an emphasis on safe handling, familiarisation, and operational application.
“The Officer Commanding Bulawayo Province underscored the importance of ensuring that senior officers are conversant with equipment used in policing to enhance operational readiness, efficiency and service delivery,” Comm Nyathi said.
