FRESH divisions have emerged among war veterans in Masvingo following a meeting led by acting national chairperson Cde George Mlala which ushered a new interim executive.
The recently elected interim provincial executive comprises former provincial secretary for lands Cde Reuben Chikono as chairman, Chiredzi East MP Cde Denford Masiya (deputy chair), Cde Kudakwashe Dzoro (secretary-general) and Cde Admore Hwarare (political commissar), among others.
The new provincial interim committee replaces the Cde Tendeukai Chinooneka-led executive.
In an interview Cde Hwarare on Tuesday said the executive led by Cde Chinoneka “is now history” and they no longer represented war veterans in the province.
“We had an election recently and a new interim executive was ushered in.
“As the new political commissar, I am already on the ground working on restructuring district committees.
Cde Chinooneka and his executive are now history. They are water under the bridge,” said Cde Hwarare.
He said war veterans are part of Zanu-PF and anyone who is expelled from the party cannot continue leading the association.
“Cde Chinooneka’s executive supports the likes of war veterans’ leader Christopher Mutsvangwa, Victor Matemadanda and Douglas Mahiya who were expelled from Zanu-PF.
“The trio was expelled for disobeying our patron President Cde Robert Mugabe and they cannot continue leading us,” said Cde Hwarare.
Contacted for comment Cde Chinooneka vowed to stay put and described the election of an interim executive as null and void.
“I have just heard that we have been replaced but we cannot be replaced by individuals who are just power hungry.
“The election of a new executive is null and void.
“Surprisingly their leader Cde Chikono is secretary for lands in my executive that I expected him to engage us if he had grievances.
“Some of our members were elected in absentia without their knowledge,” said Cde Chinooneka.
“Cdes Mutsvangwa, Victor Matemadanda and Mahiya who were expelled from the party remain Zanu-PF by blood and war veterans at heart.” — @walterbmswazie2.
