IT was dubbed The Last Dance and Chimurenga music legend, Thomas Mapfumo, delivered his farewell South African show from his seat at a packed Newtown Music Factory in Johannesburg on Saturday night.

The “Final Bira” the event lived up to its pre-event hype as hundreds turned up on the night.
Mukanya delivered almost his entire set while seated, as he deals with his advanced age.
His fans, though, don’t care about that.
“We didn’t mind seeing the old man performing seated, we all understand he is aged now and what was important for me was the message and the music,” said Mukanya fan Devotion Takafakare.
Indeed, not even age could take away Mapfumo’s raspy voice.
He serenaded fans with hits such as Hwahwa, Mamvemve, Hondo and many others.
His nephew, Kurai Makore, also gave a good performance.
The evidence is there that he is being prepared to fill Mukanya’s boots, with little difficulty, when the legend finally retires.
Makore has built his own army of fans in South Africa.
Holy Ten also delivered a good show as one of the main supporting acts.
His presence drew a number of youthful fans at the venue.
MC Rico Myers, Inno B, Mr Gee Warrior were the DJs who helped keep the fans on the feet until the early hours of Sunday morning.
