THULANI KHABO, also known by his poetic alias Tallis, is a remarkable individual who has embarked on a journey of self-expression through the art of poetry. At the age of 26, he has already left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who have had the pleasure of encountering his work.

Born and raised in the picturesque rural area of Silobela, Thulani’s educational journey took him through Khanye Seventh Day Adventist Primary School where he laid the foundation for his intellectual pursuits.

He continued his studies at Ascot High School in Gweru where his thirst for knowledge and creative expression flourished. Thulani’s educational path then led him to Fatima High School in Silobela where he completed his A-levels and solidified his passion for the written word.

Following his secondary education, Thulani sought to expand his horizons by enrolling in data and information science studies at Gweru Polytechnic. Eager to explore new opportunities, he later made the bold decision to move to South Africa in search of employment and personal growth. Little did he know that this significant transition would pave the way for his blossoming career as a poet.

It was on a momentous day, February 21, 2020, known as Robert Gabriel Mugabe National Youth Day that Thulani’s poetic journey truly began. Invited to recite a poem at a youth ceremony organised by the Vulnerable Shelter Trust, he captured the hearts of his audience with his soul-stirring words. Inspired by the overwhelming response to his love poem, Thulani discovered a newfound purpose in his writing — to inspire and uplift the younger generation.

Since then, Thulani’s literary endeavours have flourished, even in his new surroundings in South Africa. He has penned an impressive collection of 55 poems, each one an introspective exploration of the human experience. His words are a testament to his growth as a poet as well as his commitment to empowering young people to pursue their passions and transform them into meaningful livelihoods.

Thulani’s poetic style is as diverse as the human emotions he seeks to capture. From love and heartbreak to resilience and hope, his words dance across the pages, painting vivid portraits in the minds of his readers. His poetry reflects a profound understanding of the human condition, resonating with both the young and the old.

As Thulani’s reputation as a poet continues to grow, he envisions a future where he can use his artistry to inspire and uplift others. His ambition knows no bounds, and he dreams of establishing himself as a prominent voice in the world of poetry, reaching audiences far and wide with his profound insights and heartfelt words.

Thulani is an example of the power of following one’s dreams and pursuing one’s passion. Through his poetry, he has become a beacon of light for young people, showing them that with dedication, resilience, and unwavering belief in oneself, they too can create a life that is both fulfilling and purposeful.

“I write to capture the essence of life and to encourage others to chase their dreams relentlessly.

“Through poetry, we can find solace, express our deepest emotions, and connect with the world on a profound level. My journey as a poet has just begun, and I am excited to see where it takes me and the impact it has on those who read my words,” he says.
