Waking up in a different city all the time and travelling the world for free definitely sounds exciting for the young. Prospects of sightseeing and shopping in different cities of some renowned global destinations add to the joys of working as part of an airline cabin crew.

Rudo Pasipanodya’s journey with Emirates began when she applied online after completing her education in Harare to later become a member of Emirates’ Cabin Crew, which has been part of for over 8 years.

Remarkably, she studied Travel Management, which was her stepping stone, preparing her for a career in the aviation industry and Emirates became her first and only stop, where she quickly found herself thriving.

Her remarkable story, from humble beginnings, is awe-inspiring for many a disadvantaged girl child who dreams about making it big in a world fraught with hurdles and stereotypes about how difficult it is for the fairer sex to make it to the top of the world.

Born and raised in Harare, Ms Pasipanodya is the fifth of six siblings. Her family in Zimbabwe has not only been supportive of her career but also filled with enthusiasm about her global adventures.

They eagerly anticipate hearing about her experiences and the diverse destinations she visits.

“They love it and are always keen to hear about any new place I visit,” she said.

Working for the global airline has not only been a unique experience for her to realise her career ambitions in a cut-throat sector, but boosted her confidence.

“It’s interesting. Working in Emirates, I get to experience the world in one place with the different nationalities and cultures we have. Emirates cabin crew come from over 130 countries around the world, speaking more than 70 languages,” she added.

Speaking about her fond memories of her home country Zimbabwe, Ms Pasipanodya said she especially remembers and is fond of the strong sense of community, the delightful home-grown cuisine, and the vibrant energy that permeates the nation.

The cultural diversity in Zimbabwe has also made it easier for her to resonate with the airline’s multicultural and multilingual cabin crew.

Rudo added that the ability to travel and experience the world has been one of the major highlights of her career at the prestigious airline.

“I enjoy the flexibility it affords me. It’s nice to chill at the beach in Dubai on a Monday morning and then be in an entirely different place the next day.  As an Emirates cabin crew, I also enjoy discounted travel along with my family, a major perk of the job,” she said.

Commenting on the travel and tourism industry in Zimbabwe, the cabin crew member recommended international visitors to explore the country’s natural treasures, including the majestic Victoria Falls, the wildlife-rich Hwange National Park, and the tranquil Binga region.
