FUEL CONTAINERS AT AVONDALE APARTMENTS, WHICH CAUGHT FIRE, ADDS NEW TWIST

H-Metro Reporter

THE City of Harare claims some fuel containers were found at one of the apartments which caught fire in Avondale, Harare, yesterday.

The City’s Fire Brigade and Convergence Community Emergency Response Team (ConCERT) are being commended for their swift and coordinated response.

The fire gutted residential flats at Jels Court in Avondale.

It destroyed one apartment and spread to sections of neighbouring units before firefighters, supported by emergency responders, managed to contain it following an intensive operation that lasted several hours.

The City of Harare then claimed there were fuel containers at the premises.

“These fuel containers were recovered from one of the apartments where the fire at the apartments in Avondale started,” it said in a post on social media.

“While investigations are continuing, this is a cause for concern and we urge residents to make sure that they do not keep dangerous and highly flammable substances like fuel in their residences.

“We have also noted from previous fire incidences that gas stoves also cause a lot of home fires and must be therefore kept properly secured.”
