TWO slick Bulawayo men landed themselves in serious hot water after they were caught red-handed with a stash of fake US dollar notes totalling US$1 500!
Pardon Chinhengo (29) of Barham Green and his partner in crime, Clifford Sidingani Ndlovu (49) of Nketa 7, were both dragged before the Bulawayo magistrates’ court on Wednesday, where they pleaded guilty to possessing counterfeit cash — and the courts weren’t smiling.
The shady pair were convicted by Magistrate Evia Matura and remanded in custody until Thursday for sentencing.
Prosecutor Josephine Gurazhira told the court that their sneaky operation fell apart when Chinhengo tried to buy fuel at Glow Petroleum using one of the bogus notes. But the sharp-eyed attendant, Mr Salim Abdul, wasn’t fooled for a second.
Busted! Chinhengo spilt the beans, pointing fingers at Ndlovu, who had allegedly handed him 15 fake US$100 notes, all with suspicious serial numbers like CJ61755895A and LD69490373B x3.
Police later uncovered the entire stash of fakes, connecting it to a larger trend of counterfeit chaos sweeping through Zimbabwe.
Remember the 2023 Gweru sting? Two more men from Bulawayo — Chrispen Kutira and Everson Kabura — were caught at an apostolic shrine with fake notes stuffed in their car, believed to be part of a nationwide fake money ring.
Stay alert. Stay sharp. That US$100 might just be worth nothing but handcuffs!
