A BULILIMA man based in South Africa who allegedly raped a 15-year-old girl in 2011 and has since then been hiding in the neighbouring country, was arrested at the weekend when he returned home for Christmas.

Mbongeni Ndlovu, 27, had visited his home area in Huwana area for the first time since 2011.

Police detectives received a tip off following his return home.

The injiva was arrested while drinking beer at Khame Business Centre on December 26.

Ndlovu yesterday appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Livard Philemon facing rape charges and was remanded in custody to January 11.

Prosecuting Charlotte Katerere said Ndlovu raped the woman who is now 19-years-old after she turned down his proposal.

He then fled to South Africa where he has been staying for the past four years.

Katerere said Ndlovu met the woman at a show.

“On 22 April in 2011 around midnight the complainant and her friend were attending a show in Huwana area. Ndlovu proposed love to her and she turned him down.

“The complainant and her friend then decided to leave the show as Ndlovu kept pestering her and forcing her to accept his love proposal,” said Katerere.

She said Ndlovu followed them at a distance and ambushed the pair at a bushy area.

She said Ndlovu grabbed the complainant by the hand and produced a knife which he used to threaten her friend.

Katerere said the complainant’s friend fled from the scene leaving her at the mercy of her assailant.

She said Ndlovu wrestled with the complainant until he overpowered her and raped her once before fleeing the scene.

“The matter was reported to the police but Ndlovu fled to South Africa.

He was arrested on December 26 around 5PM while he was at Khame Business Centre,” she said.
