LUCK ran out for a 26-year-old Banket man, who had been on the run for several months, after he was caught and hauled to court on fresh charges.

Police confirmed the arrest of Takunda Greatman Chinakuse of Macleari Farm, Banket, who now faces five counts of armed robbery committed at Zurungove Business Centre, Golden Kopje and Makonde.

Chinakuse had been on the police wanted list for three other robbery cases committed in 2024.

He was arrested on August 15 after detectives from CID Chinhoyi received intelligence linking him to a series of robberies that took place on the same day at Zurungove, Golden Kopje and Makonde.

According to police, Chinakuse and his accomplices, who are still at large, stormed shops armed with firearms, threatening victims with violence and even firing shots.

They allegedly broke into several shops and demanded valuables, with one victim reportedly losing US$4 524.

Four other victims at the same business centre were also targeted using the same modus operandi.

Later that day, detectives tracked Chinakuse, who was driving a Toyota Passo (registration number AET 0656), and arrested him.

A search of his vehicle turned up several stolen cellphones, 17 live rounds of 12-bore ammunition, two .303 rifle rounds, and two axes.

He appeared at the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court and Chinhoyi Regional Court on August 19, facing both the old cases covered by a warrant of arrest and the new robbery charges.

He was remanded in custody to August 26, 2025, and September 2, 2025, respectively.

CID spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri confirmed the arrest, saying: “We are now on the trail of the outstanding accused persons as investigations continue.”
