TEMPTING! This aptly sums the July entertainment menu, which has already been endorsed by fun-loving people.
From music to theatre, comedy, dance, pageantry and visual arts exhibitions, merrymakers will be spoilt for choice this month.
As we wrap up the first week of July, below are some of the events to usher you into the weekend:
Supreme rhumba sessions back
This particular genre has a huge following, although the lack of venues has been the biggest let down.
The Diamond Musica frontman, Pitshou Lumiere, will ensure rhumba lovers in Harare are well catered for tonight at Ambassador Hotel Fortress.
He will be promoting his latest single titled “Daisy”.
Mental health pain-killer at
Theatre in the Park
To cap the month of mental health, the popular Harare arts hub is the place to be tonight, when it hosts the closing night of the dance-drama “Mental Explosion”.
The play, which opened on Wednesday, is co-produced by Peter Churu and Jameel O’hucks, while Patrick Tembo is the director.
Those who want to watch it must fork out US$3.
ZGS hosts marimba cultural exchange programme
The Zimbabwe Germany Society (ZGS) will tomorrow host a cultural marimba festival between Zimbabwe and the US.
Schools participating in the programme include Bernard Mizeki College, Kyle College, Mattie Junior School and Watershed College, with other performances coming from Tsoro Arts, Winad, Ngoma yeKwedu, Humwe and Child Future Africa. Participants will take part in four 25-minute workshops, with concert showcases accommodating each group.
As part of the event, other acts will include songs, life lessons, dance and marimba, courtesy of Andile Musambasi (Zimbabwe), Sheree Seretse (US) and Joseph Warinda (Zim).
Mash West host Chibuku
Neshamwari provincials
The search for Mashonaland West’s representative at this year’s Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Finals will be held at Yolanda Bar in Chinhoyi.
Winners will join nine other groups that have already qualified from other provinces.
These comprise the Dapurahunzva Arts Ensemble from Manicaland, Culture Warriors from Mufakose, Dzimbahwe Nengoma (Mashonaland Central), Gango (Masvingo), Mkango Malawi Nyau Club (Midlands), Nyaungwe Dance Group (Mashonaland East), Bolamba (Matabeleland South) and Pezhuba Pachena (Matabeleland North).
Bulawayo’s representatives will be selected on July 13 at Pekhiwe Bar.
Masvingo will host the national finals on July 27, where US$15 000 prize money is up for grabs.
A night of laughter beckons
A night of endless laughter is guaranteed at The Yard (formerly Bar Rouge) in Harare, when it hosts a comedy show tomorrow.
Top comedians led by Doc Vikela and Ckanyiso will lead a contingent of other underground entertainers.
Rising comedians taking part in the show include Hupepe, Chipenzi, Munya, Mike, ACE, Mike and Tinoe, courtesy of the Council of Clowns.
Mbeu sows seeds of success
Pakare Paye’s brightest prospect, Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora, is simply unstoppable.
The Mhodzi Tribe leader will serenade fans at Chop Chop Restaurant in Msasa, Harare.
Mbeu needs no introduction after all he has done for the industry, followng his “anointment” by the late national hero, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi.
Miss Rural search comes to Binga
After a 17-year hiatus, the search for Miss Rural Zimbabwe 2024 begins tomorrow.
Pageant founder, Sipho Mazibuko, who has roped in reliable partners, will also be promoting the Zimbabwe fabric using the pageant.
The pageant, which seeks to promote the rural child, is strictly for models residing in rural areas, according to Mazibuko.
Baba Keketso remains defiant
Mbira player Andy Muridzo might be facing some social problems, but he remains a fighter.
The 33-year-old returns to Sherwood Golf Club in Mabelreign, Harare, for a show during which he will be sampling new songs.
Andy has never disappointed at this venue, which is known for attracting big spenders.
Poptain resurfaces in Banket
Zimdancehall sensation, Poptain, who was once down with depression, is now in good shape to perform.
Tomorrow, he teams up with jiti singer Sir Gono at Perlagos Junction Inn, in Banket.
It will be double dose of Zimdancehall and jiti, which is popular in the farming community.
Birthday Boy JP off to Vic Falls
Jah Prayzah, who turned 37 yesterday, will celebrate his birthday alongside Winky D at the Econet Victoria Falls Marathon.
Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has set up a stellar line-up at the “Buddie Beatz Victory Show” to be held on Sunday night, following the high-energy marathon.
It attracts athletes from all over the world, who come to test their limits against the backdrop of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Fellow musicians Feli Nandi, Nutty O, Tocky Vibes, King Her and Chiweddar DJ among others will perform at the event.
Two of Victoria Falls’ talented artistes, Maffia King and Danman Croc, are also part of the exciting line-up.
Rhumba echoes hit Ruwa
Rhumba outfit, Bana Ngwasuma, will be in action at Red Eagle Bar in Ruwa.
The place has become a haven for patrons who are into mature music.
The outfit will be out to show that it deserves to be ranked among the best.
In recent weeks, the venue has been hosting mbira nights, jazz sessions and top sungura shows.
