Funeral parade underway for late Colonel (Rtd) Njagu

RELATIVES, serving and retired members of the Zimbabwe National Army, today gathered at the Mechanised Brigade in Inkomo for a funeral parade for the late Colonel (Rtd) George Njagu.

Colonel Njagu died at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare on Friday last week. High-level dignitaries, including serving and retired generals and spouses of ZNA commanders, were among the mourners.

Chief of Staff, General Staff Major-General Josphat Kudumba was the chief mourner. A parade in honour of the late war veteran and retired senior officer was mounted at the Mechanised Brigade parade square.

Major-Gen Kudumba led army commanders, including commander Mechanised Brigade Brigadier-General Raban Nikisi and Colonel Collin Mafika, to lay a wreath of honour.

Among the retired generals that were present were Lieutenant-General Engelbert Rugeje, Major-Generals Paul Chima and Themba Mlambo.

Col Njagu, whose Chimurenga was Bonnie Taguta, joined the liberation struggle on April 4, 1976, when he crossed into Mozambique.
