Fury Gun takes aim

ONE gun, one bullet!

Missing the target would be catastrophic.

That’s the story of Nketa 7- bred Dancehall musician Norest “Fury Gun” Muringa who conquered the Bulawayo music scene last year with a single song Awukhuzeki, a piece which changed his entire career.

It’s a scorcher that the whole of Bulawayo certified as number one as it was voted as the Song of the Year at the Skyz Metro FM charts, in the process defeating creatives like Insimbi ZeZhwane with their equally massive track iGPS, among others.

As if that is not enough, Awukhuzeki, also got Fury Gun on the nominations list, alongside the world-acclaimed DJ Nitefreak, at the 2023 Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA), as they were both nominated five times.

From the nominations, he managed to walk away with the Outstanding Newcomer accolade (across all genres).

The song, which is a fusion of Afro Dancehall and AmaPiano composed and produced by Fury Gun himself, is popular because its thematic concerns are common within the love and relationships sphere.

It is about “a guy who tries to love a girl, changing her to be wife material from a girl drinking in bars and nightspots. The guy fails to change the girl and he eventually gives up when he finds out that she is cheating on him.”

The success of Awukhuzeki has inspired Fury Gun to do more this year.

A new single that will be complemented by visuals is set to be released before the month of January ends.

“When Awukhuzeki was announced as the song of the year, tears fell down my cheeks. It was a massive surprise as I got the message while I was at the shops. This brought joy to my heart because I didn’t believe that one day my work would make me achieve this much.

“I want to assure people that I am not a one hit wonder. Fury Gun’s main goal is to be appreciated and trusted by the fans.

When I release music, the aim is to win hearts and make them happy.

“So, I am working on a video of a brand new hit song and I promise my fans that the track is a banger,” said Fury Gun.

Fury Gun was born in Mutare but he grew up in Nketa 7.

He discovered his passion for music in 2007. He started his professional career in 2011.

He describes himself as an Afro Dancehall creative, who is flexible and can adapt to different kinds of genres.
