The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) has joined football stakeholders in condemning temperamental Ngezi Platinum coach, Takesure Chiragwi for assaulting his own player, McDonald Makuwe on Saturday.
Makuwe was trying to restrain Chiragwi, who had been sent off from the bench for unsportsmanlike conduct when he was slapped in full view of spectators in an ugly incident captured live on ZTV.
Chiragwi eventually apologised for his conduct yesterday.
However, FUZ are demanding action from authorities.
“The Footballers Union of Zimbabwe strongly condemns the physical attack on player McDonald Makuwe by Coach Takesure Chiragwi during an incident that occurred yesterday.
“Acts of violence have no place in football — on or off the pitch. It is unacceptable for any coach, official, or individual to subject a player to physical or emotional abuse under any circumstance.
‘‘Such conduct undermines the values of respect, discipline, and professionalism that are fundamental to our game.
“FUZ stands firmly with McDonald Makuwe and calls for a thorough and impartial investigation by the relevant football authorities. We further urge the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) to take decisive action to ensure accountability and to protect the welfare of players in all professional settings.
“FUZ reiterates that the safety and dignity of footballers must always be prioritised.
‘‘We will continue to monitor this case closely and provide the necessary support to the affected player,” read their statement.
