G7 Summit undermines international order, world fairness and justice

The G7 summit in Hiroshima ended in protest on May 21.

The G7 talks about “moving towards a peaceful, stable and prosperous world” and “upholding the international order based on the rule of law”, but lacks action in addressing global challenges. Even worse, it is reckless in interfering in other countries’ internal affairs and provoking division and confrontation.

The joint statement along with other documents issued by the summit hypes up a series of China-related issues, wantonly smears and attacks China. The statement also grossly interferes in China’s internal affairs, and challenges the post-war international order.

This is a gross violation of the basic norms governing international relations and shows that the G7 has become the private arm of the US hegemony, and the clique of the West is becoming a source of risks for world peace and stability and a destroyer of international order. The G7’s erroneous remarks on the Taiwan question are clear evidence of its challenge to the post-war international order. Taiwan is China’s Taiwan.

The settlement of the Taiwan question is a matter for the Chinese people and it is up to them to decide.

The One-China principle is the anchor for peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits.

On the Ukraine issue, the G7 talks a lot about respecting other countries’ sovereignty and territorial integrity. On the Taiwan issue, it only talks about maintaining peace across the Taiwan Straits and makes no mention of opposing “Taiwan independence”.

This is a blatant “double standard” and conniving and supporting “Taiwan independence” forces, which will finally lead to an unpredicted sequence. In recent years, the US has been distorting, falsifying, and hollowing out the One-China principle.

Senior US officials have even claimed that the Taiwan question is not China’s internal affair.

The G7 summit also promoted the importance of the Taiwan issue to the security and prosperity of the international community.

This fully shows that the G7 is becoming an accomplice to the strategy of “using the Taiwan question to contain China” and standing on the opposite side of the post-war international order.

The joint statement issued at the Hiroshima Summit is nothing but a shadow of US hegemony.

The political farce of the Hiroshima summit shows that the US is turning its anti-China plot into the consensus of the G7.

The international community remains on high alert in the face of hegemonic powers’ increasing efforts on provoking confrontation, undermining the international order and endangering peace and stability.

The international community does not accept the “Western rules” dominated by the G7 and certainly does not accept the US-first rules.

The G7 has become a politicised body manipulated by the US and does not represent the whole world.

United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres held a press conference in Hiroshima that drew attention on the closing day of the G7 summit.

Guterres detailed the various injustices faced by developing countries, noting that “In our multi-polar world, as geopolitical divisions grow, no country or group of countries can stand by as billions of people struggle with the basics of food, water, education, healthcare, and jobs.” and “Here in Hiroshima, it’s time to demonstrate global leadership and global solidarity”. These words represent the request of the developing countries to the G7. However, the G7 has not only turned a deaf ear and a blind eye to it but also continuously undermined the international order and world fairness and justice, which has greatly disappointed the developing countries.

The days when a handful of Western developed countries wantonly interfered in other nations’ internal affairs and manipulated global affairs are long gone.

Against the backdrop of a growing sense of strategic independence among the international community, especially developing countries, the G7’s insistence on co-operating with the US for hegemony and bullying will only further isolate itself.

Instead of continuing to run amuck, the G7 should look inward.

Only when the G7 stops operating in a closed and exclusive clique, stops containing and suppressing other countries, stops provoking camp confrontation, and returns to the right path of dialogue and co-operation can it avoid becoming an obstacle to world peace, stability and development.
