HIGHLANDERS speed merchant Gabriel Nyoni could resume light training as early as Tuesday and full training in a fortnight.
This is contrary to earlier indications by his doctor that the striker would be out of action for six months after cracking his left ankle in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against Shabanie Mine at Barbourfields Stadium last month.

On Friday Nyoni said he would be going for review tomorrow where the doctor might give him the thumbs up to resume light training. Nyoni had the plaster cast on his ankle removed two weeks ago and is now walking without the aid of a crutch.

Nyoni replaced Charles Sibanda in the 59th minute during the game against Shabanie on 13 April only to last 15 minutes on the pitch before he was stretchered off and taken by an ambulance to hospital.

“If all goes well the doctor might allow me to start training on Tuesday as my ankle is healing well and won’t take the six months that had earlier been envisaged. The plaster has since been removed and I am now able to walk unaided without feeling pain in the ankle. Prayers from my father prophet Blessing Chiza helped me with this speedy recovery,” said Nyoni.

The Bosso striker said he could not wait to play because he felt this season belonged to the Mbada Diamonds Cup holders and wanted to be part of that team that will, come end of the season end a seven year title drought.

“I miss playing, I cannot wait to get back into the game and this year I am optimistic that Bosso will land the premiership crown,” he said.

On today’s Highlanders versus FC Kariba game in Harare, Nyoni said Amahlolanyama will emerge victorious despite the match being an away top of the table clash.

“My teammates will do the Highlanders family proud and bring all the three points and the travelling supporters will have a hand in cheering the team to victory, we are unstoppable this season,” he said.

The striker is famous for his short dropping celebration when he scored his maiden goal for Bosso last season in a 2-0 victory over Monomotapa and the occurrence earned him the moniker “Mabhurugwa”.

The speedy forward had a fairy-tale maiden season in topflight league with Bosso which saw him winning the Mbada Diamonds Cup and an individual accolade for the fastest goal of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Nyoni is reading round the clock in preparation for his university examinations, which start on Wednesday.

“Being off the field was a huge blow for me but at least it gave me time to fully focus on my studies. I will be writing my first exam on 14 May and finish on 29 May, by that time I am certain that I will be fully fit and raring to go,” he said.
