TEN months after he was injured, former Highlanders’ speedster Gabriel Nyoni is uncertain if he will ever play football again.
The Cape Umoya midfielder in the South African second-tier league, the Glad Championship, Nyoni sustained a Lisfranc fracture in a game against Richards Bay FC in South Africa early this year and was subsequently told that he might not play again.
Two wires and three screws were inserted in his foot and he will know in a few months whether there is a possibility that he can still play.
“I have been working towards a possible return to the field and I am undergoing rehabilitation. As of now, everything is still uncertain.
“My 12 months after the injury is in February and that’s when the insurance doctors will check the leg and determine if I should call it quits or resume playing. I remain positive about the future and the possibility of playing football again.”
While enduring the long layoff, Nyoni has been pushing his GN27 perfumes, which are on sale in the country and in South Africa.
Nyoni joined Cape Umoya in September last year from Maritzburg United where he had signed a two-year contract with the option of a 12-month extension, but consistent injury lay-offs resulted in him being offloaded.
He had joined Maritzburg United at the beginning of the 2019/2020 season from Caps United with higher expectations.
He signed for Caps after doing duty at Highlanders for six years from 2012. — @innocentskizoe
