THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee have appointed Marlene Chiedza Gadzirayi as their new chief executive/secretary general.
She replaces Stephen Mudawarima, who left the National Olympic Committee in February after two years as the chief executive. ZOC head of finance and administration Memory Pakati has been serving as the acting chief executive since the departure of Mudawarima early this year.
In a statement, ZOC president Thabani Gonye said Gadzirayi will assume her new role on September 1.
“The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Marlene Chiedza Gadzirayi as its new ceo / secretary general replacing Mr Stephen Mudawarima, who left the organisation on 6th February 2023 after two years as ceo.
“Marlene will assume her new role on 1st (of) September 2023, taking over from Ms Memory Pakati, the head of finance and administration who has been acting in that role since February 2023,” said Gonye.
Gonye said with a background in business and sports, Gadzirayi, who once worked as finance and administration officer for Footballers Union of Zimbabwe, will help the organisation grow stronger.
“Marlene’s expertise encompasses over a decade of experience in business, sports, strategic, and administrative systems leadership.
“She has dedicated her career to improving the effectiveness of internal control systems within finance, accounting, and administration, drawing from her experiences in football, media, the private sector, and non-profit organisations, ensuring that organisations have coherent strategy and execution plans to achieve desired impact.
“Her past roles have included being an accountant, business development officer, finance officer, and finance and administration manager.
“In addition to her professional and academic qualifications, Marlene is passionate about sports, wellness, travel and is an avid reader.
“Lastly, I would like on behalf of the ZOC board to heartily thank and appreciate Ms Pakati for recovering ground in the ZOC operations and programmes and stabilising the ship with a small dedicated team during her call of duty,” said Gonye.
