Gaika pays courtesy call on Chinese Ambassador

Duration Gold’s Managing Director Mr Allan Dolan last week paid a courtesy call on China’s Chief Diplomat in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Zhou Ding.

Mr Dolan appraised Ambassador Ding on the operations, progress and aspirations of Duration Gold’s Gaika Mine in Kwekwe.

Gaika Mine has oriental DNA, having Chinese state-owned enterprises China Poly, Potron and China Reform as the majority partners, although Duration is in charge of the mine’s day-to-day running.

“The principal briefed the embassy on the plethora of challenges we have faced as well as spelt out the opportunities that are abundant in the country. In addition, he spoke of the general direction of the mine in what was a cordial meeting,” said Duration spokesperson Robert Mukondiwa who accompanied the MD on the visit.

“With a strong Chinese presence in the Gaika portfolio, it was actually a long time coming that we would have to undertake a courtesy visit to the parent embassy and just appraise them of where we stand and our operations.”

Gaika Mine has weathered various tempestuous storms in recent times, most notably a massive illegal miner invasion which set back work for close to two years before Government intervened to clear out the mess.

Since then, the mine has been brought back on track, extending into extensive exploration and profitable operations.

“We were elated with the engagement we had with the embassy and Ambassador, and are appreciative of their warmth, courtesy and hospitality.

“We went on to extend an invitation to the Ambassador to tour Gaika Mine on a familiarisation tour of the property and operations which he gracefully agreed to consider.

“We eagerly look forward to hosting him and other diplomatic missions at Gaika, as a number have expressed interest to visit and experience Gaika first-hand,” said Mukondiwa.
