A MAN from Tshabalala suburb in Bulawayo has been fined $50 for reporting a fake robbery to the police.

Thubelihle Ngwenya (30) gambled away his money, cellphone and shoes then reported at Magwegwe Police Station that he had been robbed.

A court heard that he told the police that he could identify the person who had robbed him.

Ngwenya pleaded guilty to a charge of deliberately supplying false information to a public authority before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndlovu.

Mr Ndlovu fined him $50 or 30 days in prison.

Prosecuting, Mrs Thembeni Mpofu said on Tuesday around 11PM, Ngwenya reported at Magwegwe Police Station that he had been robbed at corner Masiyephambili Drive and Luveve Road.

“He told the police that he was able to identify the person who had robbed him of his money, cellphone and shoes,” she said.

Mrs Mpofu said the accused person was arrested and investigations were made where it was discovered with the help of other witnesses that Ngwenya had lost his money while gambling. She said: “Ngwenya ended up betting with his shoes and cellphone.”

The court heard that Ngwenya deliberately supplied false information to the police in a bid to recover his lost property. — @MondelaC
