Triangle United 1-1 Chicken Inn

IF there were any lingering doubts about the pedigree and class of Triangle United, these were put to rest yesterday when they produced a masterclass performance to hold marauding Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Gibbo Stadium.

It was the sixth draw for the Gamecocks this season and their fifth consecutive stalemate.

After finding the Dominic Jaricha and Mpumelelo Bhebhe marshalled Chicken Inn rearguard difficult to breach in the first 15 minutes of the game, the hosts found themselves one nil down courtesy of a Michael Charamba place in.

Charamba got to an end of a Clive Augusto inviting setup and he obliged by placing the ball beyond the reach of Matripples Muleya.

The second stanza was a ding dong affair and with the hosts pressing forward they were deservedly awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute after the rather impressive Bhebhe was adjudged to have fouled Wayne Makuva in the box.

Up stepped Ghanaian Wilson Mensah who beat a diving Donovan Bernard to his right.

Triangle head coach Thulani “Thuts” Sibanda conceded it was a positive for them. He feels that securing a point against the 2015 champions gives them the necessary self-belief heading into their next match.

“These are champions, we respected them and as such we welcome the result. We are going for the next game with so much confidence,” said Sibanda.

Prince Matore, who is in his seventh game in charge at the Gamecocks reckoned: “It shall come out well. We scored but we drew.

“It’s all pointing in the right direction. We will soon start picking up the points.” — @FungaiMuderere
