CHICKEN Inn coach Prince Matore believes football is not easy as it requires extra hard work every day for a team to be consistent.
The Gamecocks, who have had a promising start this season, are set to host Cranborne Bullets in their next game on Saturday at Luveve.
They have managed to win three games in their last five encounters and will go into Saturday’s assignment on the back of a 1-0 win over new boys Simba Bhora.
Matore said he won’t be looking much into the struggles of Cranborne Bullets as the army side has proved on a number of occasions this season that they are capable of causing harm even against the best after drawing with log leaders Highlanders and fellow giants Dynamos, and beating CAPS United earlier in the campaign.
“We are taking all our matches very seriously and we are not looking at which team we will be facing,” Matore said.
“There is no easy team in the second half of the season as the battle for survival will be getting intense with each game. That means everyone will be fighting for all the points available.
“If you look at a team like Cranborne, it is a tricky team and they will always be up there to play and get something. So we are required to work extra hard and get the required result for ourselves.”
The Gamecocks are currently fifth on the log standings with 31 points from 19 matches.
Matore said at least a top four will suffice come the end of the season. They are also still fancying their chances in the Chibuku Super Cup after overcoming the first round hurdle.
“As a club, we are looking to finish in the top four at the end of the season. We have to chase the pack and keep in check the leading teams. We have to collect points that are going to help us in all manner. We want to have a strong finish and make sure we don’t slip out of the top four.
“We made only two additions to our squad during the break. It’s difficult to bring all the players you want during the mid-season break as clubs normally don’t want to release their best players during the mid-season break.
“But overall we have a big squad that is able to compete and can bring results. I believe as a team we have to keep on working extra hard.
“If we manage to work hard I am certain we will do well; football is not easy. Everyone will be looking to get results so as a team we have to really work extra hard to be consistent.
“We are going to fight for everything, that is the league and the cup. We can’t say as a team we want to specialise with this especially considering that our games are few. We don’t have a lot of games as it is just league games and a cup.”
