armed robbers who got away with US$600 and goods valued at US$4 500 at his Mt Pleasant home.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau yesterday said the robbers, who were armed with stones, knives and a machete, locked up Bishop Gandiya and his family in the bathroom before disappearing.
The goods, Insp Sabau said, included three laptops, cellphones and jewellery. “The incident happened at around 7.30pm when the complainant was confronted by the four accused persons who gained entry into the house through an unlocked door. The accused . . . ordered Bishop Gandiya and his family to lie down and they all complied,” Insp Sabau said.
He said the robbers demanded cash and were given US$600 before they ransacked the house. “They took away the laptops, cellphones and jewellery before locking up the Gandiya family in the bathroom and disappearing. The family freed themselves using a duplicate key, which was inside the bathroom and they reported the matter at Marlborough Police Station,” he said.
Insp Sabau urged the public to desist from leaving doors unlocked especially at night.
Meanwhile, Insp Sabau said a female foreign currency dealer was robbed of R150 000 in Sunningdale on Thursday night by a gang which included his colleagues.
