A MAN, who works in South Africa, was attacked by a gang of armed robbers who stabbed him three times before stealing R900,000, and other valuables, at Khandamhlope Village in Madlambuzi, Matabeleland South.

Eight men have been arrested.

Police have recovered R239,120 from the arrested suspects.

Five of the suspected armed robbers have been identified as Listen Ngwenya (25), Admire Chimondoro (38), Njabulo Ncube (27), and Kholisani Moyo (33), all from Madlambuzi.

Delight Sibanda (19) is from Mpoyi Village.

Two suspects — Bakisai Sibanda and Ntsuna Sibanda— are on the run.

Detective Assistant Inspector Merylin Muriro, the deputy spokesperson for the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), confirmed the arrest.

“Eight individuals have been arrested for robbery in Madlambuzi,” said Det-Ass-Insp Muriro.

“The suspects forced their way into the victim’s home while he was asleep, stabbing him three times and demanding money and valuables he had brought from South Africa.”

During the confrontation, the victim surrendered a small box containing an unspecified amount of money.

However, the assailants pressed him for more, prompting him to reveal a hidden bucket under the floor containing additional funds.

All of it was in rand, the South African currency.

In addition to cash, the robbers made off with two 20-litre containers of paint, Samsung and Honor smartphones, though the devices were without SIM cards.

The victim was kidnapped and taken to the house of one of the suspects.
