A GARDENER from The Grange suburb in Harare has appeared in court on allegations of stealing property and money amounting to US$24 000 from his employer.

Benjamin Dhurawo (33) appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Rufaro Panavanhu facing unlawful entry charges.

Dhurawo was remanded in custody to Thursday pending a bail application. The complainant is Mr Caleb Tatenda Gwenzi.

Prosecutor Ms Dzidzai Josiah told the court that on April 24 this year, Mr Gwenzi locked his house and left to attend to personal business.

The court heard that Dhurawo allegedly unlocked the main door using an unknown object and stole a smart Apple watch, a smart Samsung watch, a Nothing watch, a plein Philip watch, a Samsung Z flip 5 cellphone, an HP Laptop, a MacBook laptop and US$10 000 and went away unnoticed.

On April 25, Mr Gwenzi discovered the offence and filed a report at Highlands Police Station. On the same day, he checked for his property through a Samsung Find App and noticed that his Samsung watch was last located in a cabin on the premises, which is used by Dhurawo.

It is alleged that on May 5, detectives from CID Highlands received information about Dhurawo’s whereabouts in Harare and arrested him.
