Garlic-flavoured spaghetti and mince

THIS simple yet satisfying dish remains an enduring budget classic in many households.

The garlic-flavoured spaghetti and mince dish, which serves four people, requires at least 30 minutes of preparation time.

Ingredients

500g packet of spaghetti;

300g steak mince;

One chopped small carrot;

One chopped medium onion;

Half teaspoon salt;

Two teaspoons garlic, finely chopped;

Quarter teaspoon ginger, finely grated

Half teaspoon curry powder;

Two large tomatoes, chopped;

One tablespoon tomato paste;

100 ml water

Four tablespoons oil

Method

  1. Get your ingredients together. Prepare the spaghetti according to the instructions on the packet. Once cooked and rinsed, return it to the pot.

In a separate small pot, add two tablespoons of oil and one teaspoon of garlic.

Heat slowly until fragrant. Pour this garlic-infused oil into the pot with the spaghetti and mix well. Set aside.

  1. In a separate pot or pan, heat the remaining two tablespoons of oil and add the carrots, onion, curry powder, garlic and ginger. Fry, stirring regularly, until the onions begin to brown. Add the mince and salt.

Fry until the mince also begins to brown.

  1. Add the tomatoes and tomato paste.

Stir, then add water. Simmer on low heat until the tomatoes are cooked down. Taste for seasoning and adjust accordingly. Enjoy! — Zimbokitchen
