ZANU PF is poised for a resounding victory in Mashonaland East province, with all party structures scaling up campaigns ahead of the harmonised elections scheduled for next month.
Cde Daniel Garwe who is the party’s provincial chairperson and the candidate for Murewa North Constituency reaffirmed the ruling party’s expected resounding victory in the August 23 harmonised elections.
In a historic development, Mashonaland East was the first to have high-rise buildings constructed, which is a new phenomenon in rural areas under President Mnangagwa’s mantra of “leaving no one and no place behind”.
President Mnangagwa, who is Zanu PF’s candidate for the presidential elections, is emphasising peace during the campaigns and after voting.
Addressing multitudes of supporters in Murewa North constituency, Cde Garwe said it was at the heart of President Mnangagwa to ensure a peaceful environment during and after elections.
Cde Garwe, who is also the National Housing and Social Amenities Minister, said the province would contribute handsomely to surpass the targeted five million votes nationally.
He said President Mnangagwa had garnered much support owing to his pragmatic policies which saw him reaching the once marginalised communities incorporating them into resource sharing on equal basis.
Cde Garwe said the New Dispensation led by President Mnangagwa did a lot which gives it an edge over other parties contesting in the harmonised elections.
“President Mnangagwa is a pragmatic leader who is determined to turn over the country to a new page due to his developmental programmes he undertook aimed at transforming the country to a better status,” he said.
“He is focusing on infrastructure development which is very critical to the country’s economic renaissance. Elections are held every five years in line with the democratic protocols, the Zanu PF chose President Mnangagwa to lead the party during this year’s elections owing to his compliance to constitutionalism. As a province, we have nine districts which we are sure that they will give a 90 percent of the provincial votes for Zanu PF, I would want to emphasize that we don’t want a situation where the Member of Parliament and councillor gets more votes than the President, we want uniformity.”
Cde Garwe said this year’s harmonised elections were a turning point for the country to get out of the illegal economic embargoes that were imposed on Zimbabwe by Western detractors.
“The elections which are set for August this year are very crucial to Zimbabwe owing to the democratic space widened by the President which saw international observers being accredited to the country to clear the false allegations levelled against the country by the enemies,” said Cde Garwe.
“Zimbabwe is a friend to all and an enemy to none. 2023 is a turning point for Zimbabwe of ending the illegal yoke imposed to the country because the country has now a track record of conforming to the international democratic standards which saw the Second Republic accruing a good picture in the world.”
Cde Garwe castigated corruption, saying the vice did not dovetail with President Mnangagwa’s national goals.
He said President Mnangagwa embarked on the Presidential Borehole Drilling Programme as a visionary leader who wants to see the people of Zimbabwe accessing clean water in every part of the country.
“Corruption is an animal that thwarts the country’s national goals. The President is against corruption and all its manifestations,” he said.
“The ongoing drilling of boreholes under the Presidential Borehole Scheme is meant to ensure that every citizen of Zimbabwe has access to clean water.”
Cde Garwe urged youth to desist from taking drugs.
“Youth are the future leaders of our country, hence the reason why President Mnangagwa launched the Drug Awareness Campaign to ensure good behaviour is cultivated among them. You should shun abusing drugs, they distort your bright future,” he said.
