Dubbed “Mbira and Poetry” and featuring Gary Tight, So Profound, Momo Size and Ticha Muzavazi measured up to the task and delivered a tight performance, and clearly showed that Zimbabwe had talent.
The event, which was a celebration of the rich mbira music fused with poetry and art work was nothing short of fireworks.
Despite starting one hour behind time, Gary compensated for the lost time as churned his spirited mbira vibes.
He was accompanied by two Mbiravolution resident poets Moreblessing “Momo” Size and Arnold “So Profound” Chirimika.
What captivated the audience most was his selection of songs, energetic dances and a well-choreographed performance.
Gary left the crowd spellbound when he collaborated with “Momo” on the track “Wakakosha”.
The song, a fusion of mbira and poetry, saw the audience responding overwhelmingly.
It talks about how special everyone is before the eyes of the Lord.
When Gary left the stage, Chirimika took over and mesmerised the audience with his masterful word play as he reflected on various issues in his poem.
Ticha Muzavazi, a mbira teacher and maker displayed some of his mbira’s and also lead a session on the history and importance of the instrument.
Mbiravolution continues to initiate brilliant and thoughtful ways of making the mbira a very lovable and enjoyable instrument.
This follows a successful regional exhibition and performance tour in 2012and photography exhibition which made headlines even in Zambia.
