ASBESTOS miners Gaths Mine are crying foul over the Zifa Central Soccer League’s (CSL) decision to award Tongogara three points for their abandoned match on a three nil scoreline.The match between the two clubs was abandoned due to bad light on May 11 after the latter had arrived late for the match.
Gaths Mine argue that they informed the league of the breakdown and went on to inform the region’s secretariat of their predicament.
“Following our breakdown, the team manager Taurai Mabaya and assistant coach Fidres Nyahwai travelled to Donga Police Station near Chachacha to make a police report.
The police report was made at 1.20PM as per attached police report.
Nyahwai proceeded to Gweru Zifa Central Region offices and also made a similar report to the secretary Violet Jubane who was standing in for the administrator who was away on study leave.
“As a way of commitment and to assure that the team was travelling late and indeed coming to the match venue, he even paid all the match expenses we were supposed to share with Tongogara FC (Hire of Stadium, ZRP coverage fees, match fees) amounting to $197 prior to the commencement of the match,” wrote Collins Munemo, the Gaths Mine secretary, in a letter copied to Zifa.
Stanley Chapeta, the league’s board member said Gaths Mine should approach the Zifa Appeals Committee if they feel aggrieved.
