MANICA Diamonds sunk deeper into the murky waters of relegation after settling for a morale sapping nil all stalemate against TelOne in a lukewarm Premier Soccer League played at Sakubva Stadium today.
Both teams are rooted at the basement of the Premier Soccer League log standings and their chances for survival, especially for Manica Diamonds are now more mathematical than practical.
The Manica Diamonds family seems to have accepted their fate as only vice chairman Masimba Chihowa was visible in the small Sakubva Stadium VIP enclosure while all other club executive committee members, who all along regularly attended the club’s home matches in their numbers, were conspicuous by their absence.
The same fatigue seems to have crept in the home team’s supporters after a small crowd bothered to watch the match.
In a post match interview, a dejected Manica Diamonds coach Hebert Maruwa regreted missed scoring opportunities even though he maintained that they will fight to the end.
“This is a match that we needed to win and collect maximum points but somehow we failed and settled for a point. We managed to create scoring opportunities but failed to convert and that is where we lost it.
“It is game on in the fight against relegation. We will fight to the bitter end. It will not be easy but all we can do is keep fighting,” said Maruwa.
In the remaining four rounds of league matches, Manica Diamonds will face
Highlanders, Bulawayo Chiefs, Dynamos and MWOS.
