Gems geared for Kenya test

ZIMBABWE’S netball national team is seeking to bounce back from their opening day defeat with victory over Kenya in this afternoon’s match of the Pent Series.

The Gems will go all out for a win in their next match of the round-robin format as they gear to collect maximum points.

Zimbabwe opened their account at the competition yesterday with a 38-56 loss to Malawi in Windoek, Namibia yesterday.

Malawi made their world ranking (sixth) count and proved too powerful for the 12th-ranked Gems, as they took the lead from the first quarter.

They went into the breather leading 31-16.

Zimbabwe could not mount a serious comeback as their rivals remained dominant until the last quarter to clinch the tie.

Captain and defender Felistus Kwangwa was in the thick of things, leading her charges that included the regular players as well as new blood to rejuvenate the side.

The Pent Series, which runs until Friday, holds significance for world rankings and it is important for the Gems to pick up points so as to improve and gain ground on the standings.

Other countries competing at the tournament are Zambia, Namibia, Kenya and Uganda.
