Genius strikes purple patch at Chicken Inn

CHICKEN Inn FC midfielder Genius Mutungamiri has expressed his delight on the opportunity he is being given at the club that has seen his stock rise as an offensive player in the league.

He scored his fourth goal of the season last weekend during his team’s 1-1 draw with Caps United away at Bata Stadium, coming to the end of a good move with a strike that left Caps goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga completely beaten.

“I am happy for myself at this moment. But I have to be more grateful to the coaches who have been very patient with me especially during my bad days. I felt so good to score an important goal against such a big team. It shows how much I can also contribute to the team’s progress and personally I get inspired,” said Mutungamiri.

His side plays host to Triangle Football Club, a team which is coached by Thulani Sibanda, a person who knows Chicken Inn very well as he has coached Bulawayo side Bulawayo Chiefs for most periods of his coaching career.

Triangle also have Bulawayo bred players and former Chiefs players in goalkeeper Matripples Muleya, midfielder Lucky Ndlela and Ghanaian Wilson Mensah.

Mutungamiri opened up on how big a challenge it could be to face the Triangle side.

“They have a couple of players who know us very well, and most importantly for them, the coach also knows us. Even though they are based far from here, they know everything about Bulawayo.

“It makes things a little bit complicated for us. We also have to keep in mind that we will be playing a team that is battling relegation, therefore they will give their all to win every match they play from now up to the end of the season,” said Mutungamiri.

Mutungamiri knows of that challenge as he was among the heroes of Bulawayo City’s near escape after a gallant fight under Farai Tawechera which yielded 30 points from 20 games.

Prince Matore’s Chicken Inn side go into the match knowing that a victory against the Sugar Boys will ensure that they stay within touching distance of the leading pack.
