Troublesome Ghana soccer star Sulley Muntari gets another chance to redeem his reputation today against Togo in one of three friendlies involving African teams.
New “Black Stars” coach Goran Stevanovic says his priorities include sorting out problems with a midfielder who was in and out of the national squad under previous handler Milovan Rajevac.
Muntari recently joined English Premiership outfit Sunderland on loan from Inter Milan until the end of the season and his new team-mates include compatriots John Mensah and Asamoah Gyan.
Central defender Mensah is also in line to face the Togolese “Sparrowhawks”, but a suspension rules out 2010 African Footballer of the Year runner-up Gyan after he was red carded against Sudan last October.
Blackpool goalkeeper Richard Kingson, who has conceded an alarmingly number of goals lately, and Fulham defender John Pantsil are other Premiership footballers in the Ghana squad. The match in the Belgian port city Antwerp is the first in charge of a team ranked number one in Africa for the former Partizan Belgrade coach, and he has a tough act to follow. — AFP.
