CHINHOYI Town Council has finally decided to turn its giant beerhall, which has been a white elephant for some time now, into a shopping mall.

The Gadzema beerhall had been turned into an arena for a hive of criminal

activities.

In an interview with H- Metro, mayor Owen Charuza said the development of the shopping mall will benefit both the local authority and the residents.

“There is a lot of criminal activity going on around that giant white elephant and it’s not actually bringing anything to the Council right now.

“It’s not serving any purpose.

“The shopping mall will change the face of the township.

“The call to fight drug and alcohol abuse is supported through the turnaround of the beerhall into a shopping mall.

“As council we never thought the beerhall would grow into such a monster

where criminal activities are the order of the day.”

Acting Town Clerk, Engineer Simon Marara, told H- Metro, the local authority resolved to get into a partnership to develop and upgrade the dilapidated number one beerhall.

“This will assist Council in two ways, one through the creation of working space for some of our business people who need space at or closer to the main terminus.

”It will also bring in modern development to the rank.”

Marara said the shopping mall can also be an income-generating project for the Council.
