DEFENDING Bulawayo Basketball League (BBL) men’s champions, Giants, get their title defence underway with a clash against City Knights in what is expected to be a thriller at Khanyisile Sports Centre tomorrow.

Action in the BBL commenced last weekend with champions Giants out of action for the first round of fixtures. City Knights will be hoping to get their campaign back on track after last weekend’s opening 65-52 defeat at the hands of Highlanders.

This will be the defending champions’ first assignment of the season and they will be hoping to start their campaign on a positive note.

Coach, Emmanuel Mukandi said his charges were ready to defend their title.

“We have been training hard these past few weeks. I would say we are ready for our first challenge. I had an opportunity to watch them last week, they are a good side but we are confident of victory. We have retained the same players from last season and added two new boys who will join us as soon as exams are done. We are hoping to carry on from where we left off last season,” said Mukandi.

The weekend’s action in the BBL begins today with a top drawer encounter pitting Highlanders and National University of Science and Technology (Nust). The ladies division will also see a potential thriller between defending champions Southern Mavericks and Nust B. All matches are scheduled for Khanyisile Sports Centre.
