THE Board of Directors of the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (Zimura) has announced to its members, stakeholders and the general public of the removal of Mr Gift Amuli, Mr Joseph Garakara and Mr Dereck Mpofu from the ZIMURA Council.

In a statement, the organisation said the administrative action was executed via a formal Board Resolution passed on January 21 2026, in strict accordance with the Zimura Articles of Association.

“The removal follows a series of grave breaches of fiduciary duties and conduct prejudicial to the interests of the Association, specifically: Unauthorized Conduct and Misrepresentation: On the 19th of January 2026, the aforementioned individuals convened an unsanctioned press conference.

“This action was taken without Board approval and in direct violation of established corporate communication protocols. During said proceedings, the trio issued unsubstantiated and defamatory statements made without evidence, due process, or any formal legal conviction, thereby bringing the Council and the Association into serious disrepute,” reads part of the statement.

The board said the three members did not follow the necessary procedures to host a press conference.

“By opting for public sensationalism over the Organization’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms, the individuals demonstrated ignorance to proper governance structures and a wilful disregard for the constitutional channels they were sworn to uphold.

“The Board has determined that the continued presence of these errant members poses an existential threat to the stability and governability of ZIMURA. Their actions were calculated to incite institutional paralysis, which constitutes a direct risk to the collective interests and financial security of the entire Zimura membership. Therefore, to protect the integrity of the Organization and ensure the uninterrupted collection and distribution of royalties, the Board has unanimously resolved to terminate their directorships effective,
21 January 2026. ZIMURA remains committed to the highest standards of transparency and accountability and will not allow the institution to be compromised by individual agendas,” reads the statement.
