Girls High shines in President’s Tourney

HARARE’S Girls High School were the toast of the local teams after scooping the gold medal in the Zimbabwe Handball Federation’s President’s Tournament held last weekend at Houghton Park Primary School.

The championships were dominated by visiting teams from Mozambique, who were always a class ahead in most of the categories between the two countries.

A total of 33 local teams took part in the event and were joined by three others from Mozambique.

But Girls High School ensured the hosts had something to smile about after winning the women’s section. On their way to glory, Girls High beat Mozambican club Mafambisse 13-12 before proceeding to clash with Danhamombe in the final where they won 8-6 to claim the President’s Trophy.

Chitungwiza-based club TS Alliance lost to Mozambican clubs Dondo and eventual champions Atletico to redeem the country with a bronze. Winning teams walked away with floating trophies, individual medals and kits. – The Herald Sport.
