The bodies of Glen View couple, Nyasha Mhungu (36) and his wife Olga Muzhingi (31), who were found dead in their bedroom earlier this week, were buried separately on Saturday after their families failed to agree on joint funeral arrangements.
Nyasha was buried at Granville Cemetery in Harare, while Olga was laid to rest at Zororo Cemetery in Chitungwiza, with the two families holding separate funeral gatherings before the burials.
The couple were found dead in their matrimonial bedroom in Glen View 3 last Wednesday, but the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.
A source close to both families said postmortem results were expected on Monday and could shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
“The two families failed to find a common ground, leading to separate burial places and where mourners gathered,” said the source.
“Postmortem results are yet to be released and both have been laid to rest today (Saturday).”
The decision to conduct separate funerals followed reported tensions between the two families after the deaths.
As the families mourned separately, the Mhungu family held proceedings for Nyasha before taking his body to Granville Cemetery, while Olga’s family conducted her funeral rites before her burial at Zororo Cemetery.
The burials were reportedly staggered to allow relatives and friends to attend both ceremonies.
Witnesses described the atmosphere at both funeral proceedings as emotional and tense, with relatives grappling with unanswered questions surrounding the deaths.
Police are yet to publicly provide a detailed account of what happened to the couple.
