Goals elude Musona

Musona hit a brace for the Warriors in an international friendly against South Africa played under floodlights on 15 November, giving the Norman Mapeza-coached boys a 2-1 come-from-behind win.
However, that invincibility seems to be eluding the 21-year-old Aces Academy of Harare product whenever he is putting on the German side’s shirt and on Sunday he came from the bench as his side was already 2-0 down against then bottom placed Hamburger SV. His 84th minute entry though did not produce any goals, as the match ended 2-0.

In the Russian league, former Amavevane and Motor Action player Musa Mguni played the full 90 minutes for Terek Grozny although he too did not score in a match that eventually ended nil apiece against Krytya Soveton.

Mguni’s team is still in the danger zone and need to start winning games to survive relegation.
Vusa Nyoni was on the bench as his Belgian Jupiler League side Germinal Beershcot held Lokeren 1-1 to take their points tally to 18 points. Prior to this game, Nyoni had been one of the regulars in the team.

In Cyprus, former Highlanders right back Noel Kaseke’s Omonia Nicosia opened a five point gap at the top with a closely fought 1-0 win over Ethnikos Achna to remain on course to reclaiming the title they won in 2009/10 season.

While, Kaseke is eyeing a winners’ medal, England based Onesimo Bhasera’s League One side Plymouth Argyle, continues to struggle and remain at the bottom of the standings. Their cause was not helped this past weekend as they fell 3-1 to Torque United and unless something dramatic happens, Plymouth could be headed for relegation.
Former Warriors captain Benjani Mwaruwari, was a 46th minute substitute when he came in for Tal Ben Haim in a 2-0 loss for his Portsmouth side to Watford.

In the South African Premiership, Warriors Khama Billiat and Tafadzwa Rusike’s Ajax Cape Town continued with their winless streak after being held 0-0 at home by Supersport United. Khama played the whole 90 minutes while his Warriors teammate Rusike sat on the bench.

Despite being dropped for the Bafana Bafana friendly match by coach Mapeza, captain Method Mwanjali continues to shine for Mamelodi Sundowns, commanding a starting jersey. The former Hwange and Caps United player was at the thick of things again when a fired up Maritzburg United forced then to a 1-0 victory in a game in which Nyasha Mushekwi came in as a substitute.

Warriors first choice goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini was in goals when his side AmaZulu gave struggling Black Leopards their second win of the season with a 1-0 victory while other team with  Warriors, Gilbert Mapemba, Thomas Sweswe, Zhaimu Jambo and Tinashe Nengomasha were involved in goalless draws.

Mapemba’s Moroka Swallows played against Bloemfontein Celtics while the trio of Sweswe, Jambo and Nengomasha were in the starting line-ups in Kaizer Chiefs match against Santos to complete a miserable weekend for Zimbabweans.

Forgotten former Caps United shot stopper, Energy Murambadoro put up a sterling performance as Wits University stunned South African giants Orlando Pirates 3-1 in a match that ended in tragic for Pirates with a horrific injury of Happy Jele. Jele though was discharged from hospital yesterday where he is set to undergo a scan today.
